Repeat Prescriptions

Requests for repeat prescriptions should be made in writing, via the repeat slip or online via - NHS App and your NHS account - NHS (www.nhs.uk)

Repeat prescriptions will normally be ready within 48 hours.

Please allow 48 working hours notice (2 days), excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.

Medication Reviews

It is important to review medication regularly to make sure it is appropriate for you. Each individual varies biologically which means different medications suit different people better. By having medication reviews we can help make sure you are benefiting well from your medicine.

Medication review provides an important opportunity to discuss medicine taking and to work towards a concordant agreement between the patient and the healthcare professional in relation to the patient’s medicines.

A review should normally be conducted at least annually, although the frequency may increase according to the individual patients needs.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

Electronic Prescription Service

If you get regular prescriptions, the Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) may be able to save you time by avoiding unnecessary trips to your GP.

EPS makes it possible for your prescriptions to be sent electronically to the pharmacy or dispenser of your choice. This means you'll no longer have to collect a paper repeat prescription from your GP practice – instead, you can go straight to the nominated pharmacy or dispensing appliance contractor to pick up your medicines or medical appliances.

Please inform your pharmacy if you want to nominate the place you'd like to pick up your prescription medicines or appliances from in the future.

You can choose the most convenient place for you, such as near your home, where you shop, or where you work. This is flexible and can be changed at any time – just let your doctor or pharmacy know.
